O Chanda Ja Unse Kehna - Sarhad (1966)

Another lovely Noor Jehan-Khurshid Anwar combination from film Sarhad(1966). The legend goes that this song was recorded and released on the RPM of the film. Later, it was decided that this number will not be included in the film. However, the song became a soaring hit and thus in the end found its place in the film. Other two lovely songs from Sarhad are Mala's "tujhpe qurbaan" and a fabulous Noor Jehan-Mehndi Hasan duet "chaand tu jab bhi muskurata hai." The use of "meendh" is noticeable, the dramatic rise and fall of notes and vocals add beauty to this song. Noor Jehan's vocals convey a sense of longing, desparation and deep depair.The song revolves around lovers apart and the metaphorical use of moon as a messenger.
