Pag Laage Daasi Daras Ki Pyaasi - Naag Mani (1972)
This song resembles the music that is characteristic of the bhakti-sufi school of music where the disciple becomes God's romantic lover and seeks to unite with God in search of infinite bliss. Nisar Bazmi was one music director who used to beautifully build on the
tempo and intensity of a song and whenever Noor Jehan sang such songs
for him the result was superb- like in this song as the intensity of
music, the beats of the instruments increase Noor Jehan's voice
accompanies them in union rendering aalaaps and words with increasing
pitch.
Noor Jehan sang for almost all films in which Nisar Bazmi scored music and both shared a strong love-hate relationship, respecting and admiring each other and also fighting furious battles. When the songs of Lakhon Men Ek (1967) were released and were a huge success in one of the interviews Nisar Bazmi was asked that whether he was satisfied by the way in which any singer in India or Pakistan sang his composition? Bazmi as an artist who can never be satisfied with his work said no. Noor Jehan took an offense to this remark and told Bazmi sahab that how could he say such a thing when she had sung his compositions with the
greatest perfection possible.
She made a resolution not to sing for him but later broke it. In her last years of life when she was once hospitalized, Bazmi visited her. Though severely ill, when she learnt that he was coming she remarked -'aaj to mausiiqii kaa waalii aa rahaa hai', she rose from her bed to
go downstairs and greet him personally. When Noor Jehan died, Nisar Bazmi remarked that as a person and as a singer she was 'unparalleled and unrivalled.'
